What is Art Therapy?

Art therapy is a type of psychotherapy that uses art and creative expression to help people explore their thoughts and emotions in a unique way. The idea behind this type of therapy is to use art as a means of communication, something that can be useful if you find it difficult to verbalise your feelings. It can help us access our emotions that may be hidden or difficult to feel because of trauma or buried memories.

Experience or skill in art is not required.

The first time you meet with the art therapist you will have the opportunity to talk about what has brought you to art therapy and find out if art therapy can help?

Art therapy sessions are weekly on either a individual or in a group session.  Individual the sessions will typically be for an hour and for group work  1.5 hours.

I have included two short videos of art therapy sessions with client’s. They  have kindly agreed to share their thoughts and experiences with you using Audio Image Recording (AIR) a reflect Interview,N Springham & J Brooker 2013
