Is EMDR An Anti-Racist Therapy?

I have recently been exploring and asking if EMDR works effectively to resolve racialised trauma

I am an EMDR therapist.

In my work as an art psychotherapist, campaigner and community activist I have campaigned and highlighted issues that Black people experience. The majority of my work before training as a therapist was within the public and community sector.

As a life long campaigner and anti-oppressive practitioner I am constantly examining my work to ensure that anti-racist practice is at the core and is explicit. As a therapist working with Black Minds Matter UK and as an EMDR practitioner a lot of my work includes working with clients who have experienced racialised trauma. EMDR UK have now published my article and you can read it here.

In my research for this article I came across a questionnaire that could support therapists to ask the questions about racialised trauma and assess for race based stress with clients who may find it difficult to share their experience with a therapist.

Is this something you would find useful in your practice to work with racialised trauma?

Do you feel confident to discuss racialised trauma with clients?

Would you be interested in joining a webinar to share your experience of working with racialised trauma using EMDR?
